Fugro supports McConnell Dowell and project partners on the New Bridgewater Bridge Project in Tasmania, Australia’s largest transport infrastructure development. The 1.28 kilometre bridge will replace the existing lift span bridge over the River Derwent, providing a modern and reliable crossing that connects key freight and passenger routes.
Fugro is proud to contribute its knowledge and proprietary technology to such a landmark project. By validating the foundation design, helping to deliver a safer, more efficient transport link that will benefit Tasmania’s commuters and freight operators for decades to come. Delivering deep pile foundation testing and monitoring services using its patented Osterberg Cell® (O‑Cell®) technology. This bi‑directional testing method was the only viable solution for validating pile performance under complex geotechnical conditions. Fugro’s expertise enabled the successful installation and verification of four test piles across varied geological zones, confirming the design parameters and providing the client with confidence in the long‑term stability of the bridge foundations.
“Fugro demonstrated excellent technical expertise and adaptability throughout both the design and execution phases of the project. Their entire team consistently displayed professionalism and integrated seamlessly with McConnell Dowell’s ethos of collaboration, working together for the greater good of the project and the wider community. McConnell Dowell holds Fugro in high regard and confidently recommends them for future projects”, said Francis Ally, Area Manager- Tasmania office, McConnell Dowell.
“Being part of such a landmark infrastructure development enabled us to conduct O‑Cell testing and monitoring, which played a significant role in validating the designer’s critical foundation parameters. This contribution helped ensure safer deep pile foundations and a more reliable bridge that will deliver lasting value to Tasmania‘s communities.” said Glen Mariano, Inspection and Monitoring Manager, Fugro.
