Small Island Developing States (SIDS), also known as "big ocean states", face a critical challenge: the absence of an integrated, on-demand geospatial intelligence platform that can transform complex coastal and marine data into insights and action. While data platforms abound, decision-makers are often left navigating a maze of fragmented sources, unsure which datasets are relevant, timely, or accessible for their specific needs. A chatbot that understands where and how
In collaboration with Esri, we are developing Big Ocean Insights as our response to this challenge: a conversational, GIS-enabled and Geo-data enhanced agentic chatbot, paired with a 3D digital model of the island’s marine and coastal environment. Designed specifically for SIDS, it combines:
Free and open foundational data for exploration and planning, including geospatial tools, ArcGIS Living Atlas from Esri
On-demand, high-resolution satellite-derived insights from EOMAP - a Fugro company, tailored to current conditions and user prompts.
Deep decision support through custom data requests, expert consultation, and advanced modelling capabilities.
Whether you're assessing flood risk, mapping blue carbon stocks, or planning coastal infrastructure, this innovation, built on the combined expertise of Esri and Fugro, allows users to have a conversation about where and how to plan for the future of their communities.. Through intuitive interfaces and AI chatbots, the tool is designed for both technical and non-technical users.
