On 11 September, Fugro released a statement stating that the recent work by its vessel Fugro Supporter off the coast of Argentina was limited to seabed surveying for a subsea telecommunications cable project. Since then, some media reports have incorrectly stated that this work was carried out for the UK government. Fugro was not contracted by the UK government to undertake this work. Fugro's contract for the seabed survey activities is with SubCom, a US company, which engaged Fugro to perform the work. The survey work is part of a large-scale international subsea telecommunications cable project connecting multiple locations.

Recent movements of the Fugro Supporter vessel to and from Uruguay were for resupplying the vessel and crew mobilisations.
