Fugro is co-chairing a new specialist floating offshore wind (FOW) group launched by the DeepWind cluster, currently managed by Highlands and Islands Enterprise, to help cement Scotland and the UK’s leading role in the development of floating offshore wind.
Led by Julia Roope, Global Business Development Manager for Offshore Wind at Fugro, and Dr Andronikos Kafas from Ocean Winds, the FOW subgroup will ensure that Scotland’s supply chain companies benefit from new projects in Scotland and the wider UK.
The goal of the subgroup is to develop close ties with centres of innovation, such as the Floating Offshore Wind Centre of Excellence and the Carbon Trust’s Floating Offshore Wind Joint Industry Project. As co-chair, Julia will use her commercial expertise and knowledge of the local and global offshore wind industry to support and advise group members and help develop opportunities with companies across the supply chain.
Julia said: “I’m delighted to take on the role of co-chair of the DeepWind FOW subgroup. The launch of the group represents a significant step in recognising floating technology’s importance in the future of offshore wind generation in Scotland and the UK’s leading role in offshore wind power. Fugro has supported over half of the world’s offshore wind projects and I will use our knowledge and experience of the industry to develop floating offshore wind in Scotland and support the group, whose invaluable feedback will ensure the activities we deliver provide optimum benefit.”
