Job Description

USV Technician

Are you ready to be at the forefront of cutting-edge marine technology? Based across Europe and Africa, this exciting role places you at the heart of operations involving Unmanned Surface Vessels (USVs), supporting critical geophysical and hydrographic survey missions that shape the future of marine exploration. As a USV Technician, you’ll be instrumental in ensuring these autonomous vessels are fully operational and mission-ready—directly contributing to projects that enhance maritime safety, environmental understanding, and offshore development. Reporting to the USV Site Manager and USV Technical Manager, you’ll collaborate with a passionate, multidisciplinary team in a dynamic environment. This is a full-time, site-based position that involves working in a stable rotation based on project demands.

Your role and responsibilities:

  • Oversee the operational integrity of the uncrewed surface vessel and associated systems to maximise uptime during projects.

  • Perform fault finding and maintenance on uncrewed surface vessels, geophysical equipment, and navigational systems.

  • Coordinate port call activities, including vessel berthing, refuelling, and scheduled maintenance.

  • Communicate clearly with technical support teams to ensure timely resolution of equipment faults and issues.

  • Maintain accurate records of planned maintenance, asset inventory, and fault reporting for the uncrewed surface vessel.

  • Train and mentor junior technicians, ensuring adherence to the company’s safety and operational procedures.

  • Ensure all work is completed to a high standard in line with the company’s quality, health, safety, and environmental management systems.

What you’ll need to thrive in this role:

  • Qualification in hydrographic survey, engineering, information technology, or a related technical field (such as electrical, electronics, computing, or mechanical systems).

  • Previous experience working within geophysical survey operations.

  • Proven ability to support technical operations in offshore or remote environments with a solid understanding of survey equipment, project mobilisations and operating planned maintenance systems.

  • Proficient in English, with strong communication skills.

  • Ability to work shift patterns up to 4 weeks in length across Europe and Africa as required to support project needs.
