Job Description

The Environmental Laboratory Manager provides strategic management and leadership to Iraq Environmental Laboratory staff and facilities. Drives continual improvement in QHSSE and laboratory performance in terms of productivity, innovation and client satisfaction.

Roles and Responsibilities:

  • Overview of daily activities, client communication, customer relationships, attending to analytical and operation issues to resolve in order to ensure seamless laboratory functioning.

  • Technical documents for Quotes & Tenders, Standard Operations Procedures.

  • Identification of new clients, business leads and developing relationships to discover potential areas of growth through various tools and data bases.

  • Conduct training to Senior Chemist, Chemists, Technicians and routine verification of their competencies and internal audits.

  • Ensuring aspects related to quality, health, safety and environment are met during the procession, usage and disposal of various substances which are in routine use and ensure that recognized procedures / standards are followed during these processes.

  • Ensure that the laboratory is maintaining calibrations and verifications at all times.

  • Ensure that equipment and reagents are provided to the laboratory such that the testing can be performed without undue delay.

  • Take lead on external audits, be the first point of contact for our accrediting body.

  • Overall responsibility for ensuring the laboratory produces quality, reliable data.

Qualifications and Skills:

  • Troubleshooting, maintaining and operating laboratory equipment, such as GC-MS and ICP-OES instruments.

  • Developing and validating analytical methods

  • Detailed knowledge of ISO/IEC 17025:2017

  • Broad knowledge and experience of chemical testing procedures in soils and waters.

  • Degree in Chemistry or preferably in Civil/Chemical/Geotechnical Engineering or related subjects which provide a technical base for understanding testing procedures and the results.

  • A minimum of 10 years related work experience in similar laboratory, including at least 5 years of supervisory experience.

  • Well-developed communication skills.

  • Proven track record in establishing goals and directing strategic and cultural change within a team environment.

  • Proficiency in use of office application software.

  • Experienced in managing complex projects and medium to large business units.
