The world we live in is changing faster than ever before. The population is growing and people are moving to cities. Demand for natural resources and technological developments like digitisation is increasing. And we’re feeling the effects of climate change and biodiversity decline.

If we want to find sustainable solutions to these challenges, companies, governments, and individuals must work together.

Fugro’s fundamental role

At Fugro, we’re not just committed to contributing to these initiatives, but leading them too. Together with our clients and other stakeholders, we play a fundamental role in responding to these global challenges. And providing solutions for a safer and more liveable world.

To Fugro, sustainable business means that we’re always rethinking what we do and how we do it.

In line with our strategic objectives, we unlock insights from Geo-data. This data is critical to the sustainable development and operation of our clients’ infrastructure, plants, buildings, and natural resources.

With our products, services, and innovative solutions, we directly contribute to:

  • modern infrastructure

  • climate change adaptation projects like flood and coastal protection

  • the energy transition

Fugro and sustainable infrastructure

Utility and transportation infrastructure is the backbone of any economy. However, most infrastructure was built decades ago and its maintenance recurringly postponed. This results in complex challenges to both owners and users of these critical assets and networks.

Sustainability in infrastructure requires building in a smarter, cleaner and safer way. It is about the targeted repair and replacement of existing aging infrastructure, and lifetime extension. How? It becomes crucial to understand the subsurface environment, the interaction with the surroundings and the condition of the infrastructure. Only then, can we improve safety, reduce operating risk and ownership cost, and extend lifetime.

Fugro and climate change adaptation

Climate change is an increasing threat leading to higher temperatures globally, extreme weather events and rising sea levels. We are actively adapting our business model to provide climate change mitigation and adaptation solutions. Our company is uniquely positioned to leverage its Geo-data services to contribute to the transition to a low-carbon economy and help climate change adaptation.

We offer integrated coastal resilience solutions, helping communities and asset owners to better understand climate-related risks and design solutions to mitigate them. We also offer solutions for dike monitoring and design, freshwater sourcing and transport, and ocean science.

Fugro and the energy transition

We also play a big part in the ongoing energy transition with the development of renewable energy assets like offshore wind farms. At the same time, we help with the safe and efficient development, construction, operation, and decommissioning of fossil fuels. Why? Because these are still an important part of the global energy mix.

Through our integrated digital foundation, we support clients in managing the challenges of today and tomorrow. What we do at Fugro really is essential to the sustainable development and operation of large and complex infrastructure, industrial plants, buildings, and natural resources.

For our own operations, our objective is to reach Net Zero by 2035, covering all carbon emissions from operations (scope 1 and scope 2 emissions).

Safely, ethically, efficiently

How we do it is equally important as what we do. We’re committed to conducting our business safely, ethically, and efficiently. We work with the best people and are always innovating. Not just so we can keep improving, but also so we can minimise the impact on the environment. And, of course, to comply with the relevant rules and regulations.
