SDG 7: Affordable and clean energy

Ensure access to affordable, reliable, sustainable and modern energy for all

At Fugro, we offer Geo-data for the development and operation of clean, renewable energy, most notably for offshore wind farms.

In addition, Fugro provides asset integrity services, and to a lesser extent site characterisation solutions, for traditional energy developments. This enables clients to develop, and operate fossil fuel resources, in particular natural gas as a transition fuel, in a safe and responsible way.

SDG 9: Industry, innovation, and infrastructure

Build resilient infrastructure, promote inclusive and sustainable industrialisation and foster innovation

At Fugro, we develop quality, reliable, sustainable and resilient infrastructure, including regional and transborder infrastructure, to support economic development and human well-being, with a focus on affordable and equitable access for all.

Some of the concrete actions we’re taking related to this SDG include:

• Partnering with governments, industry, academia, and research and development institutions around the world, and we participate in standard-setting organisations.

• Leading an association in the Dutch maritime industry, which aims to develop technology for green methanol-fuelled vessels.

• Contributing to the development and adoption of clean technology for low-carbon vessel operations.

SDG 11: Sustainable cities and communities

Make cities and human settlements inclusive, safe, resilient and sustainable

Fugro helps people to plan, build and manage projects safely and sustainably through trusted data and advice. For example, our expertise regarding the mapping of coastlines and subsurface conditions can support the protection of cities, communities, and vital ecosystems from the impacts of extreme weather and rising sea levels.

Furthermore, our specialist resources and digital solutions help keep people safe in areas that are prone to earthquakes, or in sensitive or complex areas.

SDG 14: Life below water

Conserve and sustainably use the oceans, seas and marine resources for sustainable development

One of Fugro’s capabilities is the mapping of coastal areas, especially those in vulnerable geographies. Our environmental baseline studies help understand, manage, and monitor the environmental impacts of our clients’ marine projects. 

By partnering with UNESCO’s Oceanographic Commission, we actively support the United Nations Decade of Ocean Science for Sustainable Development (2021-2030). This programme aims to improve the coordination of and access to global ocean science data, which is necessary to reverse the cycle of decline in ocean health and create sustainable ocean development worldwide.

We also contribute to Seabed 2030, a programme aimed at mapping the entire ocean floor for scientific, environmental, and economic benefits.

SDG 15: Life on land

Protect, restore and promote sustainable use of terrestrial ecosystems, sustainably manage forests, combat desertification, and halt and reverse land degradation and halt biodiversity loss

Fugro’s expertise can help contribute to this SDG in several meaningful ways:

• We can support better levee design, leading to improved water management, minimising the impacts of drought or flooding

• We can provide Geo-data insights that can aid in the maintenance of electricity grids, helping to modernise them and make them more resilient for more long-term increased electricity demands

• Through our aerial imagery technologies and interpreting changes to habitats, we can help minimise the extent of biodiversity loss.
