Job Description
Are you ready to lead offshore operations that directly support safer coastlines, resilient infrastructure, and the global energy transition? As a Barge Master with Fugro, you’ll be responsible for one of our large accommodation Jack-Up Barges (JUBs) and marine operations that power essential site investigation and offshore projects across the UK and Europe. Your leadership will keep our people safe, our assets performing, and our clients’ missions moving forward. You’ll report to the Resource Manager UK Land and work hand‑in‑hand with Project and Vessel Managers, shaping a truly collaborative One Fugro culture. This is an offshore role with management of 24/7 barge operations on rotation, with 4-6week shift schedules during campaigns.
Your role and responsibilities
Expectations & Deliverables
Ensure the safe, efficient operation and maintenance of a large liveaboard Jack-Up Barge (JUB), upholding Fugro’s Life Saving Rules, values, and project documentation at all times.
Lead short‑term planning for marine operations, securing the right equipment, consumables, and documentation needed to deliver high‑quality project outcomes.
Set and champion the safety culture on board, intervening where required and ensuring every team member works safely and confidently.
Responsibilities
Manage and mentor the JUB/marine crew in operation, function, and maintenance of marine equipment, support skills development and cross‑training.
Responsible for moving and jacking Fugro’s large liveaboard jack up platforms.
Ensure compliance with vessel and Class documentation requirements and contribute to audits, certifications, and operational readiness.
Work closely with Project and Vessel Managers to plan and oversee marine operations, including budgeting, procurement and approval of third‑party invoices.
Monitor crew performance and behaviour, provide constructive feedback, and uphold professional conduct on and off shift.
What you’ll need to thrive in this role
Proven managerial experience of large liveaboard Jack Ups, ideally in offshore, geotechnical, or marine construction environments.
Strong leadership and communication skills, with the confidence to guide diverse teams and make sound operational decisions.
Existing offshore certification or marine qualifications.
Ability to plan and coordinate equipment, logistics, and work schedules in support of 24/7 offshore operations.
Willingness and flexibility to travel frequently to offshore project locations across the UK, Europe and Worldwide under rotational work patterns.
Any prior experience managing an 8-legged Jack up is highly desirable.
