Job Description

At Fugro, we’re transforming how the Earth is understood. As Tech Lead for the GeoFuse team in GroundIQ, you develop an AI-powered platform that turns complex subsurface data into actionable 3D models for infrastructure planning.

You lead a multidisciplinary team of AI engineers, MLOps experts, and developers, collaborating with geophysical and geotechnical specialists to create Fugro’s proprietary 3D ground modeler and visualizer. Your work will enable automated insights and client-ready reports, helping engineers and asset owners make faster, smarter, and more sustainable decisions—similar to how medical imaging revolutionized healthcare.

Backed by Fugro’s global expertise, GroundIQ is redefining ground intelligence. If you're passionate about AI and geospatial tech, this is your chance to shape the future.

Your role

  • You lead and scale a multidisciplinary engineering team (AI/ML, MLOps, full-stack) with a strong culture of ownership, excellence, and collaboration;

  • You drive the development of GroundIQ’s next-gen platform, transforming complex subsurface data into actionable 3D models;

  • You design and productize AI/ML models for subsurface feature extraction, enhanced through expert-in-the-loop feedback;

  • You own and evolve the technical roadmap, balancing fast delivery with long-term scalability and innovation;

  • You mentor engineers and foster a safe, inclusive environment that encourages experimentation and growth;

  • You establish engineering best practices across code quality, testing, CI/CD, and scalable deployment;

  • You build proprietary tools including a 3D ground visualizer and LLM-powered geo-reporting agent to automate insights and support risk-informed decisions.

Your track record

  • You have a MSc in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field;

  • You have proven experience in building and scaling high-performing AI/ML engineering teams, including hiring, mentoring, and fostering a culture of technical excellence and collaboration;

  • You are experienced in designing and deploying deep learning models using frameworks like PyTorch or TensorFlow - ideally applied to 3D data processing or scientific domains;

  • You have familiarity with large language models (LLMs) such as GPT-4, including prompt engineering and integration into product workflows;

  • You are in the possession of strong Python skills, with hands-on experience in geospatial, scientific computing, or data fusion libraries (e.g., NumPy, SciPy, GDAL, PyVista);

  • You have the ability to collaborate with domain experts (e.g., geoscientists) and translate complex subsurface requirements into scalable AI solutions;

  • You hold a track record of leading technical initiatives, mentoring engineers, and driving architectural decisions in high-impact environments.

What Fugro offers

  • A diverse and inclusive working environment;

  • A competitive salary;

  • 29 holidays per year based on a fulltime employment (of which 4 are appointed by Fugro management) and the possibility to purchase 12 additional days;

  • Extensive career & training opportunities both nationally and internationally;

  • Flexible working hours and the ability to work from home in accordance with your manager and corporate policies;

  • Commuting allowance;

  • Modern pension scheme;

  • Collective health insurance;

  • Possibility to register with our corporate fitness plan;

  • Coaching options through our EAP (Employee Assistance Program).
