Job Description
Job Responsibilities:
Obligated to execute all Safety-, Security-, Health- and Environmental policies on board.
Can act as the dedicated Ship Security Officer when appropriately qualified.
Always comply with (inter)national legislation, flag state requirements, accepted industry standards, Company decrees and contracts.
Issuing appropriate orders and instructions in a clear and simple manner. Verifying that specified requirements are observed and the functionality of Management of Change is observed. Reviewing the safety management system and reporting its deficiencies to the shore based management. Has the ultimate responsibility for the vessel and all operations that take place on board and is in overall command of the vessel.
Managing the ship and crew in such a way that navigation, repair & maintenance activities as well as the goals and objectives of the company are being realised in an economic, efficient and safe way with a vessel that is, technically, in a good condition.
Representing the Company, the vessel’s owner and/or vessel charterer.
Completing all necessary reports, keeping the vessel’s administration up to date and ensuring the availability of the required and valid certificates on board.
Take measures and execute incident investigation in case of malfunctions, defects, incidents or accidents and to report same to the Company.
Conduct appraisals of Deck Officers and Catering Crew and consulting with the onshore management team regarding personnel matters.
Coordinating, delegating and planning activities on board and ensuring completion of the planned activities according to the work scheme with a minimal loss of time.
Ordering materials or reparations on time and against minimal costs in accordance with the company’s economic interests.
Ensures that the crew is fully trained for and aware of emergency situations. Promotes a positive safety culture onboard.
Lead by example by wearing appropriate PPE and comply with safety practices and procedures at all times.
Responsible for the medical care on board.
Stands watches as officer of the watch.
Closely liaises with the project teams on board.
Maintains discipline, order, neatness, hygiene and adequate living conditions throughout the vessel.
ISM: Has the authority to request the Company’s assistance as may be necessary. ISM: Has the authority for issuing and withdrawing standing orders. Has the authority and obligation to stop an activity whenever the safety of the crew, the ship or the environment is endangered or an unsafe, conflicting or non-conforming situation arises with the Fugro HSSE policy and the company’s QHSSE policy. Take disciplinary measures against crew or other passengers when necessary.
Job Requirements:
18+ months in the rank of Master
All STCW licenses and certificates required for this position.
Proficiency in English
Able to undertake the tasks, duties and responsibilities as a Master as per STCW Code and aligned with the vessels trading area and tonnage.
Knowledge of the applicable codes, guidelines and standards.
