The geotechnical laboratory technician is responsible for performing laboratory tests and analyses on soil, rock, and other geological materials to support geotechnical engineering projects. This role involves conducting a variety of tests to assess the properties and characteristics of geological materials, providing accurate and reliable data to inform engineering decisions, and ensuring compliance with industry standards and protocols.

Key Responsibilities:

Conduct laboratory tests on soil, rock, and other geological materials following established procedures and protocols.

Prepare soil and rock samples for testing, including sample logging, labeling, and documentation.

Perform a range of tests to assess the physical, mechanical, properties of soil such as classification, compaction, permeability, shear strength, and consolidation.

Operate laboratory equipment and instruments used for testing, including sieves, moisture content meters, compaction devices, triaxial cells, and consolidation apparatus.

Record and analyze test data accurately, ensuring quality control and adherence to specifications and standards.

Maintain laboratory equipment and facilities in good working condition, ensuring cleanliness, calibration, and safety compliance.

Assist with the development and implementation of new testing methods, procedures, and protocols to improve efficiency and accuracy.

Adhere to health and safety regulations, procedures, and guidelines to ensure a safe working environment for oneself and others.

HSE Responsibilities:

Responsible for ensuring safety of self and others at site. Prevent damage of equipment and assets Responsible for following all safety signs/procedures/ safe working practices Responsible for using appropriate PPE’s Responsible for participating in mock drills. Entitled to refuse any to undertake any activity considered unsafe. Responsible for filling up of hazard observation card, wherever hazard has been noticed at site. Responsible for safe housekeeping of his work place. To stop any operation that is deemed unsafe To be able to operate fire extinguisher in case of fire To report an incident as soon as possible to immediate supervisor and HSE manager To complete HSE trainings as instructed to do so
