Job Description

For our Corporate Legal Department in Leidschendam (the Netherlands) we are currently looking for a Patent Attorney.

In this role you advise the business on commercial legal and Intellectual Property matters. You are responsible for partnering with R&D and Innovation in invention scouting as well as drafting and prosecuting patent applications in the Marine and Land portfolios, in both engineering and software related topics. You report to the Global Head of IP. Although this role is located in Leidschendam, you are expected to work globally.

Your role

  • You draft, prosecute and defend patent applications/patents;

  • You assist, support and advise the company in patent and other IP-related matters such as patent strength and validity options, risk assessments and IP strategies;

  • You are responsible for IP awareness sessions, IP education and presentation of complex patent situations in a simplified manner among internal stakeholders;

  • You assist in identifying business risk and in developing policies, procedures and trainings;

  • You represent Fugro in Oral Proceedings before the EPO (examination/post-grant proceedings).

What you bring along

  • You have a University degree in (any type of) Physics, Mathematics, Engineering, Information Technology, Software engineering, Software development or any related discipline.

  • You are a certified attorney and in the possession of either an EQE (candidates of the EQE 2024 or 2025 may be considered as well) or a national patent attorney education e.g. CPA, Dutch patent attorney, US patent agent. Holding both EQE and national patent attorney qualifications is an advantage;

  • You preferably have knowledge and Copyright and/or copyleft experience;

  • You have experience as an in-house Patent Attorney or in a private practice;

  • You have experience in drafting/prosecuting EP patent applications in software-related topics;

  • You have excellent communication and language skills in English (written and spoken).
