Functional Job Description – Office Geophysicist

Reports to: Client Deliverables Manager

Supervises: Assigned Staff

Authority level: Not Applicable

1. Basic Function

Responsible for interpretation and reporting of geophysical data. Supports other departments with geological background information

2. Primary Duties and Responsibilities

2.1 Operations

a) Interpretation of geophysical data

b) Check geophysical data from the field for completeness and quality c)Checks data precisely, keeps precise log of processing parameters

d) Execute given work ensuring it is within project targets and in accordance with specifications, procedures and work practises

e) Responsible for field reporting and compilation of survey reports in given company format

f) Check work of subordinate staff

g) On occasion is expected to liaise directly with client

h) Responsible for actively ensuring the implementation of QC procedures in the field environment

i) Responsible for ensuring reports are duly completed as and when necessary j) To undertake any other duties as appropriate within their competence, as required by the Geo-data Supervisor from time to time

k) Maintains appropriate quality standards even when under pressure

l) Can be counted on to complete set tasks reliably and co-operatively

m) Adhere to Company QA/HSE standards at all times, and demonstrate thorough awareness of and compliance with the QA/HSE system and its requirements

2.2 Financial

a) Assist the Project Manager and/or Planning Team Lead in maintaining expense accounting

b) Account for own project and business-related expenditure

2.3 Personnel

a) Advise superior on subordinate staff performance

b) Assist with advising and training of staff on technical, quality and safety related issues

2.4 Administration

a) If applicable check and approve all field administrative reporting

b) Is responsible for and / or assist with maintenance of field survey / engineering administration and field filing system in accordance with work practices

c) Ensure time spent on projects is properly accounted for

d) Assist with field related expenditure reporting

2.5 Specific Additional Duties

a) Actively participate in adherence to and improvement of the company Management System on Quality and HSE related issues.

3.Principal Working Relationships

a) Work with Geo-data Supervisor for timely submission of reports

b) Liaise with Party Chiefs on data quality of geophysical data

c) If applicable work with superior field staff to ensure projects are completed to client’s specifications

d) Meet with Project Manager for project debrief

e) Meet with Resources and Operations Support Manager for selected project debriefs, Staff Development Interviews and if applicable personal Performance Appraisal discussion

f) Meet with QA/HSE dept for QA discussions, feedback, training.

4.Education and Experience Requirements

a) B.Sc. or M.Sc. level in geophysics or related subject

b) Conversant with acoustic equipment

c) Conversant with computer operation and a basic knowledge of application software.

d) English language

e) Experience with IHS Kingdom and SonarWiz would be beneficial.
