SBTi Targets
Achieving net zero goes hand-in-hand with Fugro’s purpose to contribute to a safe and liveable world. We also recognise that companies play an important role in the reduction of global greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions, and that’s why we aim to achieve net-zero GHG emissions across the value chain by 2050. To demonstrate how serious we are about this commitment, our near- and long-term emissions reduction targets have been approved by the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi).

What is the Science Based Targets Initiative
The Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi) is a global body enabling businesses to set ambitious emissions reductions targets in line with the latest climate science. It is focused on accelerating companies across the world to halve emissions before 2030 and achieve net zero emissions before 2050.
Targets are considered ‘science-based’ if they are in line with what the latest climate science deems necessary to meet the Paris Agreement goals, limiting global warming to 1.5°C above pre-industrial levels.
Fugro’s Science-Based Targets
| Scope 1 & 2 near-term target | Reduction of absolute scope 1 & 2 emissions by 54.6% by 2033, compared to a 2022 base year. |
| Scope 2 near-term target | Increase in active sourcing of renewable electricity from 47% to 80% by 2025, rising to 100% by 2030. |
| Scope 3: near-term targets | Reduction of absolute scope 1 & 2 emissions by 54.6% by 2033, compared to a 2022 base year. 60% of suppliers by spend (covering purchased goods and services, upstream transportation, business travel and capital goods) to have science-based methodology aligned targets by 2028. |
| Scope 1, 2 & 3 long-term target | Reduction of scope 1, 2 & 3 emissions by at least 90% by 2050. |
Additional roadmap target
We have additional target related to our net zero roadmap, which is not subject to SBTi validation:
A 25 % reduction in emission intensity from own vessels by 2027.
