Fugro Belgium is looking for a motivated and detail driven Laboratory Technician to join our Geotechnical Laboratory in Louvain-la-Neuve.
This is a hands on technical role where you will actively handle soil and material samples, run laboratory tests, operate computer controlled data logging equipment, and ensure accurate, high quality data processing.
It’s a position for someone who enjoys practical work, precision, and problem solving — and who isn’t afraid to get involved in the physical side of laboratory operations.
👉 Flexibility to travel occasionally to Wallingford (UK) is required.
👉 Your onboarding will begin with a 3 month training period in Wallingford, our sister company.
Main Responsibilities
• Core-logging: Open liners, identification of the type of soils, description and sub-sampling of soils.
• Perform geotechnical laboratory tests to the highest safety and quality standards, including hands on sample preparation and equipment handling.
• Assess whether test results meet technical expectations and peer review requirements.
• Record and process test data accurately using worksheets and spreadsheets.
• Calibrate, clean, and verify laboratory instruments, and maintain calibration records.
• Work independently while following established procedures and protocols.
• Contribute to the day to day practical operations of the laboratory.
Skills & Candidate Profile
• Fluency in French and English.
• Solid general education (ideally including English, mathematics and science).
• 1–5 years of experience preferred, but motivated newcomers are welcome.
• Strong numeracy, literacy and IT skills (Excel proficiency required).
• Good organization and ability to work alone or with a team.
• Excellent attention to detail and strict adherence to procedures.
• Basic understanding of scientific or technical principles (physics, mechanics, materials).
• Comfortable with laboratory equipment and willing to learn advanced testing methods.
• Reliability, discipline, structured work approach and strong communication skills.
• Flexibility to travel occasionally to the UK and to work on the vessels.
• Motivation to grow in a specialized technical environment with a strong reference for hands-on, manual and occasionally physically demanding work.
Why Join Fugro?
• A collaborative, supportive and multicultural working environment.
• Competitive salary and benefits package.
• A company that values entrepreneurship, continuous learning and improvement.
• Family friendly practices with a focus on results rather than hours.
• Clear development opportunities in one of Europe’s largest geotechnical laboratories.
• Strong commitment to employee wellbeing and health.
• A premium working environment in Louvain la Neuve.
