Electrical Chargehand (Workshop-Based)
Location: Falmouth, UK
Hours: Full-time, 40 hours per week

Are you a hands-on electrical professional ready to lead from the front? Join Fugro and play a key role in delivering high-quality electrical work that supports innovative geotechnical and offshore projects worldwide. As an Electrical Chargehand, you’ll be at the heart of our workshop operations to lead our team, ensuring exceptional standards, and helping keep critical equipment running safely and efficiently. Working closely with the Electrical Supervisor, you’ll influence daily operations while mentoring others and shaping a high-performing team. This is a fully onsite role in a collaborative workshop environment, where your expertise will directly support Fugro’s mission to create a safe and liveable world.

Your role and responsibilities

  • Lead and coordinate day-to-day electrical workshop activities, ensuring work is completed safely, on time, and to the highest quality standards.

  • Provide hands-on technical guidance and mentoring to electricians and apprentices, supporting their development and performance.

  • Carry out and oversee electrical installation, maintenance, testing, and fault-finding across workshop assets.

  • Ensure compliance with electrical regulations (e.g. BS 7671), safe systems of work, and Fugro’s QHSSE standards.

  • Inspect, verify, and sign off completed work, including panels, cabling, and installations, ensuring all meet required specifications.

  • Monitor progress, identify issues, and communicate effectively with the Electrical Supervisor and wider team on timelines, resources, and risks.

  • Maintain clear and accurate documentation, including test results, defect reports, and as-built electrical schematics.

What you’ll need to thrive in this role

  • NVQ Level 3 in Electrotechnical Technology (or equivalent), including AM2, or a time-served apprenticeship.

  • Strong hands-on experience in low voltage single and three-phase electrical systems, including installation and fault finding.

  • Proven ability to read, interpret, and update electrical schematics.

  • Experience working with PLC installations (hardware-focused, not software programming).

  • Confident communicator with a collaborative approach and the ability to support and guide others in a team environment.

  • CSCS card, 18th Edition Qualification, First Aid certification are desirable.
