Job Description
In St. John’s specifically, MAI is a long‑established hub with expanded capabilities since the launch of Fugro’s Canada Remote Operations Centre (ROC). MAI Fugro in St. John’s ensures offshore platforms, subsea systems, and marine infrastructure are inspected, monitored, and kept safe—often using remote and uncrewed technology instead of sending people offshore.
The Online Surveyor will be responsible for performing projects of low complexity and assists more senior colleagues in more complex projects by being involved in executing positioning and navigation tasks and data acquisition, the appropriate QC, the compilation of accurate and customised results reports and other deliverables, including the correct off-sets, measurement and calibration of positioning equipment, the setup and/or operation of survey equipment, carrying out computations, data processing and the compilation of survey reports and, following established procedures. Works under supervision of more senior colleagues. Requires a college or university degree. Continue to develop technical knowledge.
Job Responsibilities

Supports the setup, interfacing, testing, calibration, and operation of the full suite of survey sensors.
Ensures operations are conducted in a timely and efficient manner in accordance with project terms and conditions.
Operates online survey software and monitors the data quality to ensure required specification is achieved and taking immediate corrective action when required.
Receives calls and makes outbound calls to remote project locations and provides confident, clear, and concise information.
Maintains effective and appropriate communication with client representatives, Project Manager, and other onshore and offshore departments e.g., Data Services, Subject Matter Experts, Innovation, Staff Development Coordinators, Human Resources, IT, and QHSSE.
Collects collates and presents results from various survey sensors.
Develops and maintains clear and concise documentation for all survey-related activities.
Prepares and ensures quality control of survey logs.
Maintains current and accurate vessel information and comprehensive handover notes.
Conducts reporting and processing as required.
Actively participates in project briefings, daily meetings, and safety meetings as appropriate.
Be available for potential offshore survey roles as required.
Job Requirements
Legally authorized to work in Canada, without restrictions.
Possess or be able to obtain a valid passport.
Possess current driver’s license with acceptable motor vehicle record.
Possess a degree in Engineering Technology or electronics and IT related discipline.
Have experience or familiarity with the operation, repair and maintenance of some of the equipment listed above.
Basic networking/IT skills.
Have knowledge of commonly used survey sensors, e.g. GNSS, Gyro, MRU, USBL.
Have knowledge of the principles of real-time positioning, data acquisition and data QC.
Have experience in fault finding and reporting.
Have knowledge of and ideally some experience with operating online survey software packages.
