Job Description

Stepping into the role of Geotechnical Project Engineer means joining a team at the heart of offshore site investigation and ground engineering where data, insight and collaboration shape the foundations of major marine and energy projects. This position offers the chance to work closely with experienced engineers, laboratory specialists, project managers and offshore teams, contributing to high quality geotechnical reporting that supports safe and successful project delivery.

As a key member of the Engineering Reporting department, you will take on meaningful responsibility from the start. You will lead routine offshore investigations, guide junior engineers and transform field and laboratory data into clear and reliable engineering assessments. Whether you are coordinating offshore operations, developing soil parameters or preparing final reports, you will be part of a supportive environment that values technical growth, teamwork and continuous learning. For early career engineers who want to deepen their expertise and play a hands-on role in complex offshore projects, this is an opportunity to grow, contribute and make a real impact.

You will have the opportunity to travel internationally and work offshore, typically for 60 to 90 days per year working aboard offshore plants (e.g. a drillship, jack-up etc.) to perform standard and specialised in situ and offshore laboratory testing as well as collect, process and analyse soil and/or rock samples.

Due to UK Visas and Immigration requirements, this role is not eligible for visa sponsorship

Your role and responsibilities:

  • Supervise teams of engineers during offshore site investigations when acting as Team Leader or Lead Site Engineer.

  • Carry out and oversee routine offshore site investigations, including in‑situ testing and offshore laboratory work.

  • Collect, process and analyse soil and rock samples during offshore campaigns.

  • Manage technical data acquisition, processing, interpretation and quality checking.

  • Plan, oversee and interpret laboratory testing programmes.

  • Develop soil parameters and contribute to site characterisation for engineering use.

  • Perform engineering analyses and check the work of others.

  • Prepare field reports, factual reports and engineering reports in line with company procedures, project specifications, and industry standards.

  • Work collaboratively with colleagues across departments such as laboratory, project management, quality, health and safety, and commercial.

  • Ensure all work complies with health, safety and quality policies.

What you’ll need to thrive in this role:

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Civil Engineering or a related discipline, or equivalent experience.

  • Knowledge of geology and soil mechanics

  • Relevant post‑graduate experience.

  • Experience assisting with the development of junior staff, even if not in a formal management role.

  • Graduate membership in a civil engineering and/or geological society.

  • Proficiency in English with good verbal and written communication skills.

  • Proven ability to work effectively in a team environment.

  • Ability to act as Team Leader, Lead Site Engineer, or Shift Engineer during offshore site investigations.

  • A good team player and able to form working relationships with clients and colleagues at all levels

  • Always adheres to strict QHSSE compliance.
