Job Description
Are you energised by field leadership and excited by the idea of shaping safe, efficient drilling operations that support critical infrastructure and environmental projects across the world. As a Drilling Supervisor at Fugro, you’ll play a central role in delivering high‑quality site investigations that help communities build safely and sustainably. You’ll lead skilled field teams, influence the safety culture on site, and ensure that our operations run smoothly, confidently, and in line with Fugro’s values. Reporting to the Resources Manager UK Land, you’ll collaborate closely with Operations and Project Managers, working in a friendly, supportive environment where teamwork and continuous improvement are at the heart of everything we do.
Your Role and Responsibilities
Expectations & Deliverables
Lead the safe, efficient execution of drilling and site operations, ensuring compliance with Fugro’s Life Saving Rules, standards, and project requirements.
Maintain a strong on‑site safety culture, setting expectations, intervening where required, and encouraging best practice across all shifts.
Ensure all drilling equipment, tooling and consumables are certified, fit for purpose, well maintained and available when needed.
Oversee personnel performance and development, offering feedback and guidance to build a strong, capable drilling team.
Support short‑term planning of operations, ensuring methodology, equipment, documentation and resources align with project needs.
Responsibilities
Assign and manage the work of drilling and operational teams on site.
Liaise daily with Operations Managers, Project Managers and Client Representatives to ensure smooth project delivery.
Monitor operational performance and escalate or act to resolve issues quickly.
Represent Fugro professionally at all times, fostering positive relationships both internally and with clients and third‑party project partners.
Maintain accurate site records, reporting and communication to support project delivery and continuous improvement.
What You’ll Need to Thrive in This Role
Experience in drilling, site supervision or field operations, ideally within geotechnical, environmental or construction‑related disciplines. Experience in a marine drilling environment is preferable, along with experience of modular jack ups.
Strong people leadership skills, with the confidence to motivate and mentor multi‑skilled field teams.
Proven ability to make sound decisions under pressure, maintaining a calm, solutions‑focused approach.
A proactive attitude to safety and quality, with the ability to intervene, coach and influence behaviour positively.
Flexibility to travel regularly to project sites across the world and to support shift patterns linked to 24‑hour operations and working away for 4 to 6 week periods.
