As a Contracts Specialist/Legal Counsel providing maternity cover within Fugro’s UK Legal team, you will be at the heart of some of the most exciting and fast‑evolving projects in the renewables sector. You will collaborate closely with commercial and project management teams, influence key decisions and play a pivotal part in securing contracts that set our projects and our people up for success.
This role can be offered on a full‑time basis (37.5 hours per week) or part‑time. For part‑time arrangements, the ideal schedule is four days per week (30 hours), though we are also open to considering a three‑day schedule (22.5 hours). Once you are settled into the role, hybrid working will be an option.
Your role and Responsibilities
Review and advise on clients’ proposed contractual terms and conditions for tenders and new contracts.
Prepare contractual and commercial qualifications to support negotiations.
Provide contractual advice to business development, commercial, project management and technical teams.
Support commercial teams during client negotiations to secure balanced, low‑risk contracts.
Ensure all contracts comply with Fugro’s corporate risk‑mitigation policies.
Advise on subcontracts, NDAs, performance bonds, parent company guarantees and insurance matters.
Maintain and manage internal and external contract registers.
Provide general ad‑hoc advice on legal and contractual matters across the business.
Assist project teams with resolving contractual issues and disputes.
Collaborate with other contract specialists across Fugro to promote consistent contracting practices.
What you will need to thrive in this role:
Required:
A degree or equivalent in law or business with law or a degree in engineering/construction management, quantity surveying or a related technical subject with a significant element of formal contract law training.
Understanding and experience of standard industry contract forms such as: LOGIC, FIDIC, ECC and NEC.
Knowledge and experience of contracts and contracting practice in the offshore wind, oil and gas or construction industry.
Experience of disputes and dispute resolution.
Understanding of commercial issues and the commercial process.
Commercial acumen and negotiation skills.
Computer literacy, including use of Microsoft office software
Desirable:
A post-graduate qualification in contract law, construction law, or oil and gas law, or the ICE Law and Contracts qualification.
Experience in a law firm or in house as a legal counsel or contracts specialist, reviewing and negotiating contract terms and managing contracts and contractual disputes preferably related to offshore wind or similar.
Practical commercial or project management experience in offshore windfarms, construction, engineering or ground investigation industries, with a focus on contractual and commercial issues would be welcomed.
