Job Description
From our head office in Nootdorp, you will play a key role within the Legal team supporting Fugro’s Global Fleet Services. As legal counsel, you are a key contributor to a globally connected legal network, collaborating with colleagues across jurisdictions to navigate complex legal landscapes. This is not just a legal function, it’s a strategic partnership embedded in a dynamic, international operation. You're part of the business, not just advising from the sidelines. You gain deeper insight and make long-term impact. Your expertise will help shape the legal framework underpinning Fugro’s fleet operations, from compliance and intellectual property to specialized maritime law.
You will advise on and help structure a wide range of legal matters, including:
Chartering agreements for vessels
Contracts for fleet maintenance and repair
Vessel acquisitions and transfers
Flagging and registration processes
Maritime insurance claims
Shipbuilding and autonomous vessel operations
Crewing arrangements and flag state compliance
This role demands both legal precision and practical insight. You’ll be trusted to deliver clear, actionable advice that supports operational goals while safeguarding legal integrity across Fugro’s global fleet.
Your role
Assess, negotiate, and advise on contracts in accordance with internal guidelines. You will draft contracts yourself;
Develop improvements in procedures and standardization to enhance the efficiency of legal support;
Support the commercial and business development teams in entering into contracts and project teams with claims during project execution;
Support the management of the Global Fleet Services organization in business development, assessing partnership and collaboration agreements;
Provide internal training on legal topics, including contracting and terms.
Your trackrecord
You are a qualified shipping lawyer with at least five years of dedicated legal experience within a maritime environment, specializing in maritime practice, P&I clubs, or similar sectors.
You have demonstrated ability to collaborate effectively within a team and foster strong professional relationships.
You are proficient in raising awareness of legal issues through constructive communication and guidance.
You have excellent proficiency both oral and written in English.
