Job Description

Fugro’s Marine Geotechnical service line empowers clients to make informed decisions during engineering, design, and construction phases of infrastructure projects by acquiring and interpreting accurate geotechnical data. As a Geotechnical Engineer, you’ll report to a Senior Engineer and be responsible for delivering high-quality, customised services—ranging from fieldwork and data analysis to engineering interpretation and client reporting. You’ll also provide technical guidance and on-the-job training to junior colleagues, contributing to continuous improvement and project success.

Must-Have Requirements

  • Education & Experience

    • Degree in Civil Engineering, Geology, or a related discipline (or equivalent experience).

    • Minimum 3 years of proven offshore and/or onshore geotechnical engineering experience, ideally supporting marine oil & gas or offshore wind projects.

    • Medically fit and committed to undertake offshore assignments for 120–180 days (or more) per year, on a rotational basis (subject to business needs).

  • Technical Skills

    • Proficiency in both verbal and written technical English.

    • Strong report writing and data processing skills.

    • Experience with geotechnical software and laboratory/field testing is an advantage.

Qualities to Thrive in This Role

  • Excellent teamwork and adaptability, thriving in dynamic and multicultural environments.

  • Strong communication skills to collaborate with colleagues and clients.

  • High attention to detail, organisational skills, and a proactive approach to problem-solving.

  • Commitment to safety, quality, and continuous improvement.

  • Willingness to mentor and support junior team members.

Comprehensive Job Profile

To excel as a Geotechnical Engineer at Fugro, you’ll need to combine technical expertise, operational discipline, and strong interpersonal skills. Your key responsibilities and performance indicators include:

  • Fieldwork Leadership: Serve as shift or lead geotechnical engineer during domestic and overseas offshore assignments, ensuring safe and efficient operations.

  • Data Management: Perform sample logging, soil classification, and input data into geotechnical software; process in situ and laboratory test data; generate field deliverables and maintain organised records.

  • Engineering Analysis: Evaluate test data, develop foundation design parameters, and perform analyses such as spudcan penetration, pile capacity, and mudmat bearing capacity.

  • Reporting & Communication: Produce factual data and engineering reports, assist in project administration, and communicate findings clearly to clients and stakeholders.

  • Project Coordination: Assist in planning and coordinating field investigations, assign and monitor laboratory tests, and collect field operations data for reporting.

  • Continuous Improvement: Contribute feedback on workflows and provide on-the-job training to junior colleagues.

  • QHSSE Compliance: Ensure full compliance with Fugro and client QHSSE (Quality, Health, Safety, Security, and Environment) requirements at all times.

Success in this role is measured by your ability to deliver accurate, timely, and high-quality geotechnical data and reports, support safe and efficient field operations, and foster a culture of learning and improvement within the team.
