Job Description
Fugro’s Houston Geotechnical Laboratory is one of the largest private geotechnical labs in the world, located on Fugro’s Houston campus. The facility spans 1,200 square meters and houses over 140 testing stations, staffed by a team of more than 30 professionals, including civil engineers, geologists, marine scientists, and chemists. The lab provides a comprehensive suite of testing services for both onshore and offshore projects globally, specializing in advanced geotechnical testing such as triaxial, cyclic, and dynamic soil tests.
The Quality Supervisor ensures the integrity and reliability of laboratory testing by overseeing the quality management system, maintaining compliance with industry standards and accreditations (ISO 17025, ISO 9001, A2LA, ACOE, AASHTO), and leading continuous improvement initiatives. This role is responsible for equipment calibration, metrological traceability, internal audits, proficiency testing, and quality assurance/control to uphold the validity of test results and support operational excellence.
Quality Supervisor works closely with the Houston Laboratory Manager, Engineers, Technicians, and collaborates with Teams Leads at the Country/Local level to achieve and maintain quality certifications including ISO 17025, ISO 9001, ACOE, and AASHTO accreditation while improving laboratory standards and practices.

Job Responsibilities
Lead by example and place Quality, Health & Safety, Security, and the protection of the Environment as core values while never intentionally placing employees, our processes, customers, or the communities in which we live and work at risk.
Develops frameworks, templates, and protocols for equipment management, calibration, and facility monitoring, and evaluate calibration results.
Oversees the equipment management process, ensuring the lab environment meets all safety and operational standards, and set criteria equipment purchase, calibration requirements and evaluate and review external service providers.
Manages proficiency testing programs to verify test accuracy and validity, analyse results, prepare outcome reports.
Ensures the implementation and maintenance of the Laboratory’s Quality Management System (QMS) in compliance with ISO 17025, ISO 9001, AASHTO, A2LA, and ACOE standards. This includes maintaining the Quality System Manual, directing equipment calibration, and ensuring metrological traceability.
Oversees internal and external audits, manages non-conformities, and drives corrective actions to support continuous improvement.
Coordinates with Testing Leads and ensures that procedural updates are reviewed and implemented appropriately.
Oversees that staff training records are maintained to ensure competence, and all quality documentation is kept current to support accreditation and the validity of test results.
Provides training and support to the Quality team in calibration activities and internal audits, identifies skill gaps, implements, and reviews competency framework, and offers continuous feedback for growth.
Foster a culture of quality and continuous improvement within the Laboratory and stay updated on industry best practices and advancements in Quality Management.
Collaborates with other departments to implement quality frameworks and facilitates communication to ensure alignment with quality objectives, enhancing performance and compliance.
Job Requirements
Authorized to work in the United States without restrictions
A high school diploma or equivalent is required, Bachelors in Science is preferred.
Have 8 years or more of experience in a lab environment.
Have prior experience in ISO17025 & ISO9001 accredited Lab required.
Have work experience in geotechnical or construction materials laboratory and performing tests is preferred.
Have experience in supervising small team of engineers and technicians.
Knowledge of application of ISO 17025 & ISO9001 and accreditation standards.
Experience with testing and calibration standards.
Experience in audits preferred.
Able to write technical documents.
Manage large data input, skilled in reviewing and correcting data.
Proficient in use of all MS Office applications, and macro embedded Excel preferred.
Must possess a valid driver’s license and a clear driving record.
