Job Description
Fugro’s Marine business delivers the data, insights, and operational support required to safely and efficiently develop, build, and maintain offshore and coastal infrastructure. Through surveying, site characterization, positioning, inspection, monitoring, and consulting services, the team helps clients reduce risk and make informed decisions across the lifecycle of marine projects
The Marine Technician I is an entry-level technical position responsible for supporting offshore, nearshore, and onshore marine operations across multiple service lines, including Hydrographic, Geophysical, Geotechnical, ROV, AUV, MetOcean, and Marine Survey operations. The role assists with the installation, operation, maintenance, troubleshooting, calibration, and repair of a wide range of marine equipment, instrumentation, sensors, data acquisition systems, and support technologies.
Working under the guidance of experienced technical personnel, the Marine Technician I develops technical proficiency through structured training, field experience, mentorship, and competency-based career progression. This position requires a strong technical aptitude, commitment to safety, and the ability to work in challenging marine and offshore environments.
Job Responsibilities

Assist with the installation, mobilization, integration, testing, operation, maintenance, and repair of marine equipment and systems.
Support offshore and onshore operations across Hydrographic, Geophysical, Geotechnical, ROV, AUV, MetOcean, and Marine Survey projects.
Perform equipment inspections, preventative maintenance, calibrations, and functional testing.
Troubleshoot basic to intermediate electrical, electronic, mechanical, networking, software, and data acquisition issues.
Support equipment mobilization and demobilization activities on vessels and project sites.
Maintain equipment inventories, maintenance records, technical documentation, and project reports.
Ensure compliance with all Company HSE policies, procedures, and quality standards.
Work collaboratively with project managers, engineers, surveyors, scientists, vessel crews, and field personnel.
Participate in technical training programs and competency development initiatives.
Maintain operational readiness of assigned equipment and work areas.
Travel and work offshore, nearshore, and at remote project locations as required.
Other duties as assigned.
Job Requirements
Legally authorized to work in the United States, without restrictions.
Possess the ability to obtain a valid passport for international travel.
GED or High school diploma required, with minimum of a year or more experience.
Must be able to pass an OGUK physical and a DOT drug screen.
Must possess a current BOSIET certification or be able to complete it within 3 weeks of employment.
Associate of Science (A.S.) degree in Marine Technology, Electronics, Engineering Technology, Instrumentation, Computer Technology, Computer Networking, or a related technical discipline.
Relevant military technical training and experience
No prior professional marine industry experience required for candidates with relevant technical education or military training.
Frequent travel and offshore assignments may be required.
Previous experience with electronics, instrumentation, mechanics, networking, data acquisition systems, marine operations, ROVs, AUVs, or related technical fields is beneficial but not required.
Basic understanding of electrical, electronic, mechanical, and computer-based systems.
Demonstrated mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting ability.
Ability to learn marine equipment, instrumentation, software, and data acquisition systems.
Ability to obtain and maintain required offshore medical and safety certifications.
Strong problem-solving, organizational, and communication skills.
Ability to read and follow technical procedures, manuals, and equipment documentation.
Ability to work effectively in team-oriented, offshore, and field environments.
Commitment to safety, quality, and continuous learning.
Willingness and ability to travel domestically and internationally as required.
Development and Competency
This position is designed as a structured technical development role intended to build competency across multiple marine service lines.
Employees are expected to reside in the Lafayette, Louisiana area for a minimum of two (2) years to support training, mentorship, and competency development requirements.
Successful completion of required training programs, safety certifications, and technical development milestones is required.
Employees must participate in and successfully pass annual competency reviews demonstrating progression in technical knowledge, operational proficiency, and equipment competency.
Continued advancement within the Marine Technician career path is contingent upon achieving and maintaining established competency standards.
Work may be performed aboard vessels, docks, fabrication facilities, warehouses, and remote project locations.
Ability to work extended hours and rotational schedules as project requirements dictate.
