Job Summary:

The Data Scientist – Laboratory & Geo-Data Analytics will develop data-driven models, analytics workflows and machine learning solutions to support Fugro’s APAC geotechnical laboratory digitalisation and innovation roadmap.

The role will support laboratory data analytics, QAQC automation, anomaly detection, predictive modelling, dashboard analytics, LIMS / LabPro data utilisation, and AI-enabled ground intelligence workflows.

The role will contribute to the AI enabled Marine Ground Digital Twin Platform, including models linking CPT, laboratory testing, geophysical, imaging and historical project datasets.

This is a 3-year fixed term contract for placement in Singapore, and only open to SG/PR candidates.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Develop data science and machine learning models

  • Build analytical models for laboratory, geotechnical, operational and project datasets.

  • Develop predictive models, anomaly detection tools, classification models and statistical workflows.

2. Enable laboratory data analytics and QAQC automation

  • Analyse laboratory test data to identify trends, inconsistencies, outliers and data quality issues.

  • Support automation of laboratory data validation, QAQC checks and anomaly flagging.

3. Support predictive geotechnical analytics

  • Develop models linking laboratory test results with CPT, geophysical, imaging or historical project datasets.

  • Support estimation of geotechnical parameters from partial or combined datasets.

4. Support dashboards and operational insights

  • Develop analytics outputs for turnaround time, backlog, productivity, test progress, capacity planning and data quality.

  • Work with digital and IT teams to convert analytical outputs into usable dashboards, reports or digital tools.

5. Integrate and structure laboratory datasets

  • Work with LIMS, LabPro, RFID and data teams to prepare datasets for analytics use.

  • Clean, transform and structure complex laboratory and geotechnical datasets for repeatable analysis.

6. Validate models with technical specialists

  • Work with laboratory and geotechnical subject matter experts to validate model outputs.

  • Document assumptions, methodology, limitations and validation results for operational use.

Requirements:

Education: Bachelor’s degree in Data Science, Computer Science, Statistics, Applied Mathematics, Engineering, Geoscience, Physics or a related quantitative discipline.

Or Master’s degree in Data Science, Machine Learning, Engineering Analytics, Geoscience Analytics or related field is preferred.

Working experience: 3 to 8 years      

  • 3+ years’ experience in data science, machine learning, statistical modelling, engineering analytics or applied data analytics.

  • Hands-on experience developing models using Python and common data science libraries.

  • Experience working with complex, incomplete, noisy or operational datasets is required.

  • Experience with engineering, laboratory, geotechnical, geophysical, scientific, sensor, time-series, depth-series, spatial or industrial datasets would be an advantage.

Management experience: 0-3 years

  • Formal people management experience is not required.

  • Experience coordinating analytical work with domain experts, engineers, IT teams or operational users is preferred.

License/ certification/ qualification:

  • Certification or professional training in machine learning, data analytics, cloud analytics, SQL, Power BI, Python, statistical modelling or AI development would be advantageous.
