Supervising Geotechnical Core Logging Technician

Fugro Belgium is looking for an experienced, rigorous and hands on Senior Laboratory Geotechnical Engineer to join our Geotechnical Laboratory in Louvain la Neuve.
In this advanced technical role, you will carry out complex geotechnical tests, oversee laboratory workflows, support junior colleagues, and ensure the highest standards of data quality and operational excellence.
This position is ideal for someone who combines strong technical expertise, practical laboratory experience, and the ability to guide and coach less experienced team members.
👉 Flexibility to travel occasionally to Wallingford (UK) is required. 
👉 Your onboarding will begin with a 3 month training period in Wallingford, our sister company.

Main Responsibilities
•    Core-logging: Open liners, identification of the type of soils, description and sub-sampling of soils.
•    Perform and oversee geotechnical laboratory tests to the highest safety and quality standards.
•    Provide technical guidance, coaching and on the job training to junior laboratory staff.
•    Review test results, ensure compliance with technical expectations, and support peer review processes.
•    Operate, calibrate and troubleshoot laboratory instruments and computer controlled data logging equipment.
•    Maintain accurate documentation, calibration records and quality control logs.
•    Contribute to continuous improvement of laboratory procedures and workflows.

Skills & Candidate Profile
•    Master’s degree in Geotechnical Engineering, Civil Engineering (geotechnics focus), Earth Sciences or a closely related field, or equivalent professional capacities and/or experience.
•    Minimum 5 years of relevant experience in a geotechnical laboratory or similar technical environment.
•    Proven ability to work in a hands on, practical laboratory setting.
•    Experience in supervision, coaching or training of junior team members.
•    Strong understanding of geotechnical principles, laboratory methods and material behavior.
•    Experience with core logging is an asset, but not mandatory.
•    Excellent numeracy, literacy and IT skills (Excel proficiency required).
•    High attention to detail and strict adherence to procedures and safety standards.
•    Strong communication skills and ability to collaborate in a multicultural environment.
•    Fluency in French and English.
•    Flexibility to travel occasionally to the UK and to work on the vessels.
•    Motivation to grow in a specialized technical environment with a strong  reference for hands-on, manual and occasionally physically demanding work.
