Senior Chemist

Job Description

A Senior Chemist bridges technical excellence, quality compliance, client satisfaction, and financial control, ensuring that requests are properly reviewed, tests are correctly performed, results are reliable, and invoices accurately reflect services delivered.

Key Responsibilities

• Oversee sample receipt, labeling, storage, and chain of custody in accordance with laboratory procedures.

• Supervise laboratory testing activities (soil, water, aggregates, cement, and minerals) to ensure compliance with approved standards and methods.

• Ensure laboratory operations comply with ISO/IEC 17025 and internal quality procedures, including audits, NCRs, and corrective actions.

• Review, validate, and approve test data, calculations, and final laboratory reports before client release.

• Coordinate with finance to verify completed tests and support accurate invoicing aligned with approved quotations and contracts.

• Manage laboratory staff workload, provide technical guidance, and support training and competency development.

• Ensure laboratory equipment calibration, maintenance, and readiness for use.

• Act as the technical point of contact for clients on testing methods, results, and technical issues.

• Enforce HSE requirements, including safe chemical handling, PPE usage, and proper waste disposal.

Education & Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry or a related scientific discipline (required).

• At least 5 years’ experience of working in a similarly disciplined and accredited laboratory

• Certification as an ISO 17025 internal auditor is an advantage.

• Proficient in English (written and spoken).

• Competent in MS Office applications.
