Job Description
We are looking for a Weather Forecasting Operations Manager responsible for overseeing the management and day to day supervision of the Weather Forecasting operations for the companies’ global team of Forecasters.
The role would be based from one of the Fugro APAC regional offices notionally Singapore.
This will include setting attainable goals to team members in order for:
Projects to be initiated and finished on time.
Provides guidance to team members to encourage work productivity.
Makes sure the timeline is followed.
Provides stringent QC on all services.
Investigate new concepts and value-added services that could advantageous and provide new and unique new services that benefit our clients.
Troubleshooting production issues.
Close client liaison to address issues promptly and providing timely solutions
Your role:
Project Management of all existing and future weather forecasting contracts, in particular the larger value offshore forecasting contracts, including managing the Client database and setting up new contracts for the duty forecasters, when practical.
Maintain the weather forecasting division procedures in coordination with the QA manager
Create and maintain data collection scripts for chart production and forecaster use.
Preparation of the monthly forecast work roster
Preparation of an annual leave roster for all forecasting staff
Responsible for all the forecasting staff, including their annual appraisals, leave requests, training, etc (appraisals/training to be shared with the Forecast Manager)
Very occasional offshore weather forecasting duties as required.
Assist in maintaining existing software systems and infrastructure in consultation with software developers.
Develop relationships with existing and prospective internal and external customers to interpret all individual requirements.
Supervise resource allocation to assure attainment of business and personnel development goals.
Additional duties as directed by the Forecast Manager, or Divisional Director, from time to time, i.e. Desk studies, review of Metsys software developments, etc.
You should possess:
An appropriate Science degree, preferably with a Msc in Meteorology
A minimum of 5 years’ experience in managing a weather forecasting team or at least 10 years’ experience working as marine weather forecaster with an in-depth knowledge of Meteorology and have experience in working with a variety of Meteorological data sources including GRaDS/Thredds data sets and the associated formats
Proven working experience in managing small teams
Experience serving as technical lead.
Some programming skills and knowledge of modern HTML/CSS coding practices
Familiarity with at least some of the following programming languages: PHP, ASP.NET, Javascript or Python
A flair for clarity of design would be desirable.
