Job Description

Fugro is seeking a dynamic and commercially minded Business Development Manager within our Geophysics team to strengthen our presence in the UK and EUAF markets. This is a high‑impact, client‑facing role responsible for driving early engagement in pre‑construction, construction and asset maintenance phases, positioning Fugro as the trusted advisor of choice.

In this role, you will work at the forefront of our Land Geophysics strategy whilst building long‑standing client relationships, identifying and shaping opportunities, and developing innovative value‑added solutions that integrate seamlessly with Fugro’s broader site characterisation offerings. You will be a key technical ambassador for ground‑based and infrastructure Geophysics and GroundIQ, engaging with clients to understand their challenges and translating these into compelling commercial proposals.

You will collaborate closely across Business Development, commercial, technical and project delivery teams to develop winning strategies, influence proposal direction, and ensure continuity from pursuit through to successful delivery. This position offers the opportunity to play a central role in one of Fugro’s targeted growth areas, actively contributing to revenue growth targets and helping shape our geophysics development roadmap.

Your Role and Responsibilities:

  • Engage early with clients across pre‑construction and construction phases to identify opportunities and influence project direction.

  • Build and maintain long‑standing, trusted client relationships, becoming a recognised technical advisor in geophysics and GroundIQ solutions.

  • Identify, grow and develop Geophysics opportunities across the UK and EUAF region, aligned with strategic growth goals.

  • Follow and analyse market trends, competitor activity and industry developments to guide commercial strategy and opportunity targeting.

  • Develop clear scopes of work, influence project specifications, evaluate risks and shape value‑driven proposals for clients.

  • Lead or support the proposal process alongside commercial teams, ensuring high‑quality, innovative and compelling submissions.

  • Cross‑sell and up‑sell capabilities across Fugro’s integrated service lines to maximise value for clients and strengthen Fugro’s market position.

  • Maintain a high‑quality CRM pipeline using Avalon, ensuring opportunities and client insights are accurately logged and tracked.

  • Work closely with project management and delivery teams to ensure client expectations are met and feedback is captured effectively.

  • Support delivery, commercial excellence and operational excellence initiatives across the service line.

  • Represent Fugro at industry events, seminars and professional forums to showcase innovative geophysical solutions and enhance Fugro’s profile.

  • Support regional and global key account strategies.

  • Provide insights into market reviews and competitor analyses to support business planning and strategic decision‑making.

  • Demonstrate leadership in QHSSE, promoting safe working behaviours and supporting safety programmes and initiatives.

What You’ll Need to Thrive in This Role:

  • Strong client‑facing communication skills with a proven ability to build trusted relationships and influence technical and commercial discussions.

  • A solid network within geophysics, ground investigation and infrastructure geophysics.

  • Technical knowledge of geophysical investigation methods, GroundIQ and geophysical deliverables.

  • Experience developing and executing business development strategies, including opportunity identification and early project engagement.

  • Strong understanding of client risks, project pain points and the ability to translate these into intelligent, value‑added solutions.

  • CRM experience (Avalon/MS dynamics), with the ability to maintain high‑quality sales data and forecasting discipline.

  • Analytical mindset with experience tracking market intelligence and competitor positioning to inform commercial strategy.

  • Experience in proposal management, including bid/no‑bid analysis, pricing strategies and strategic proposal development.

  • Bachelor’s degree in geophysics, earth science or a related subject, or relevant professional experience in geophysics.

  • Experience in project management, technical delivery, client engagement or commercial roles within geophysics.

  • Motivated, collaborative and proactive approach, with the ability to work across matrix teams and support strategy implementation.
