Ireland’s electricity network owner, ESB Networks, awards Fugro a 5-year framework contract for data capture and 3D modelling of its network of overhead transmission and distribution lines.
Fugro will deliver accurate helicopter based lidar data on the power company’s overhead lines combined with intelligent, cloud based processing, to create classified datasets ready for PLS-CADD™ upload. Working together with ESB through the course of the framework, Fugro will develop the potential of its Roames virtual world asset management service to unlock prospects for a modern, reliable and resilient power grid.
This framework marks the first time that lidar data will be acquired over ESB’s 38kV HV distribution network. The network presents a unique challenge to the company due to the age of the assets and the varying ground clearances across the circuits. The Roames suite of analytics offers ESB the potential to identify, report and create work orders on these infringements from a desktop environment.
“ESB Networks is looking to improve network resilience and performance through virtual world asset management - a new technology beyond our traditional data delivery. Through this we aim to achieve efficiencies and provide a better service for Ireland's electrical network," said Kevin O’Connor, Asset Manager at ESB Networks.
