Abstract
Since foundation deformations of the main piers have a large influence on the performance of the superstructure, extensive deformation analyses have been performed during the design phase. In order to minimise the risks and optimise the costs, the observational method was applied. Based on an extensive monitoring system the deformations of the bridge were monitored. Since the deformations remained well below the intervention values no control measures were necessary. Valuable lessons with respect to dealing with uncertainties in the analysis of measuring and estimation of residual settlements were obtained.
