Abstract
Methods of thermal analysis of powerlines have been collated and presented in standards by both the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) and International Council on Large Electric Systems (Conseil International des Grands Réseaux Électriques, CIGRE). This paper will show the advantages and disadvantages in the respective IEEE and CIGRE approaches and explore the value opportunity of applying a hybrid thermal analysis model to distribution networks exposing new methods of improving asset management practices.
