Mapping difficult inaccessible areas, modelling complex installations and determining the exact measurements of buildings and installations are just a few examples of the many possibilities. With laser scanning all these types of measurements can be carried out efficiently and with exact precision.

With the aid of a laser scanner great advantages are obtained on projects. Objects are registered completely detailing accurate and reliable information. At a safe distance dangerous or inaccessible areas can be measured reflectorless causing minimal disruption to traffic. Additional information from the data set can be delivered quickly and designs can be visualized directly into an existing situation. Moreover laser scanning is cost effective due to higher productivity, shorter production stops of industrial installations and minimising the amount of traffic safety measures.

Fugro is able to deliver an exact geometrical point cloud that can be elaborated on by the client's specialist and put into a CAD model. Fugro also has experienced in-house specialists available who can process all the necessary information from the point cloud into tailor made products. This information can be delivered digitally in various digital formats including AutoCAD or MicroStation files. In using these programmes the data can then be managed in the usual way. The laser data itself is stored permanently.

Fugro has used the laser scanner for a wide variety of projects such as in architecture, infrastructure and the onshore/offshore industry. Fugro supports the whole process of data collection from project definition to delivery and report. Laser scanning can be especially applied in combination with traditional data collection techniques in order to optimise efficiency.
