ROV Drilling Support Tools

With its large fleet of observation and workclass ROVs, Fugro is a major supplier of support services to the marine drilling industry. Our services include provision to some of the industries leading contractors for:

• Drill support of wild-cat and exploration drilling from basic observation class ROV systems right up to full spec work-class ROVs
• Production and field development drilling support for installation, hook-up and control of production trees

Our versatile observation class ROVs perform a range of vital tasks associated with jack-up rig drilling operations.
These include:

• Sonar and visual inspection of the site for safe and efficient jack-up operations to ensure there are no obstructions or hidden dangers
• Monitoring the spud-cans as they are pre-loaded to make certain that seabed penetration is within safe limits
• Video inspection and monitoring of seabed during open-hole drilling, driving casing and cementation
• Regular visual inspections of casing, leg sections and spud-can penetration levels for monitoring subsidence and rig integrity
• Pre-abandonment acoustic and visual inspection of well sites to locate any artefact remaining on the seabed

Fugro’s work-class ROVs perform those drill support tasks that require precision intervention, special tooling and expertise, including:

• Seabed inspection and intervention prior to final positioning at the well site
• Debris removal and sand-bagging old spud-can holes prior to jacking down operations
• Observation and intervention assistance with guide base installation
• Assistance when running casing and for taking cement samples for quality checks
• Template X-Y positioning control and precision alignment
• Monitoring and / or operating hydraulic jacking for template levelling
• Mud and cuttings removal
• Inspection, cleaning and intervention tasks on blow-out preventors
• Assistance with installing hydraulic tools on production and injection trees

A wide range of basic and specialist tools are maintained at our ROV operations’ bases. These include:

• 11/2 inch wire cutters for slicing through and removal of guide wires
• AX/VX ring removal and re-insertion tools
• Low pressure wash pump for the removal of light debris and mud build-up
• Hot stab, pressure balance connector systems for ROV deployed surface override of BOP functions
• Production drill-support tooling
• Tooling Deployment Unit (TDU), a Cartesian coordinated powered frame for deploying API standard tools for the control of sub-sea wellheads / production and injection trees
• Torque tool, API standard interface tool for turning production trees valves
• Linear actuator tool for controllable high linear force to control valves
• Fluid injection unit for flushing or controlling sub-sea tree functions
