To support ROV pipeline inspections, Fugro provides a digital video system that is completely integrated within the Starfix Suite. The acquisition system encodes up to four channels into MPEG2 format within a single computer together with framing information that allows survey data to be tied in with the imagery. The MPEG2 files are stored to a RAID array that is included in the system, and are automatically backed up to two LTO2 tapes. The supplied RAID array is 1Tb, which will allow up to a week of video data to be stored online, and which will keep sufficient data available for processing. The retrieval and display of the data is integrated within Starfix.Edit, thus allowing the user to view all the survey data and the MPEG2 imagery at the same time. At the end of the project, an electronic report is exported that contains all the survey data and MPEG4 clip files showing events of interest. This report can be viewed in Starfix.DigitalReview, a free desktop viewer application that is supplied with the report.
