Rapid Response Mapping

Fugro’s rapid response mapping services are designed to provide first responders with the critical geospatial information needed during emergency response and recovery operations. With advanced mapping capabilities and large production resources, our aircraft and crew have the flexibility needed to mobilize quickly for timely acquisition of airborne or satellite imagery and lidar data. Fugro also has the ability to mobilize thermal and hyperspectral imaging sensors. Our production teams are experienced in mobile processing operations and work closely with customers to develop and disseminate final products that meet all required specifications in the fastest manner possible.

Products and Services

  • Disaster pre-planning. To facilitate fast identification, characterization, and analysis of the ground scene during a crisis situation, Fugro works with customers to prepare rapid response mapping plans prior to an event. Pre-planning components include mobilization and deployment plans, GIS databases for critical infrastructure requirements, and acquisition plans for critical infrastructure elements.
  • Photogrammetric mapping. From new or existing imagery, Fugro provides a wide-range of photogrammetric mapping products in support of rapid response efforts. These include ground and true orthoimagery, digital elevation model (DEM) data, and planimetric and topographic mapping. Depending on the source imagery, products can be delivered at pixel resolutions ranging from a 5 cm to 1 m (for 1:500- to 1:1,2000-scale mapping).
  • Lidar mapping. From lidar mapping, Fugro produces bare-earth digital elevation models (DEMs) at a nominal post spacing of 1 m to 4.5 m. In addition to orthorectifying aerial imagery, lidar DEMs can be used to calculate volumetric surveys for change-detection in the event of fires. Orthorectified lidar intensity images also provide an efficient and cost-effective way to monitor ongoing recovery/relief efforts.
  • Thermal mapping. Thermal imaging provides surface temperature and heat intensity information to help firefighters track the position of fire lines during wildfires, to help direct recovery efforts more efficiently in the case of underground fires, or to detect underground pipeline or sewer leaks.
  • Data dissemination and visualization. Fugro’s web-enabled SIMmetry system provides a valuable GIS tool for emergency preparedness and response. Its easy-to-use, web-based format allows members of the geo-intelligence community to plan for potential disasters as well as to quickly process, exploit, and disseminate spatial and non-spatial data to emergency workers in the case of an actual event.
