Image Interpretation / Elevation Modeling
Consulting with customers to determine the optimum image solutions needed for specific applications,
Fugro accomplishes projects by acquiring, processing, and interpreting a full range of optical and
radar satellite imagery, with ground resolutions ranging from 50 cm to 30 m, including: Ikonos, QuickBird,
WorldView, Orbview, Formosat, Kompsat, SPOT, Landsat TM/ETM, ASTER, ERS, Envisat, Radarsat, and other
space-borne satellite datasets. Fugro also maintains one of the world’s largest private satellite image archives.
Products and Services
- Terrain characterization. Autocorrelation software is used to create accurate digital elevation models (DEMs) from optical or radar satellite data, anywhere in the world with vertical accuracies of up to 5-10 m. In addition to custom DEM development, Fugro offers off-the-shelf medium resolution DEMs over most of the globe providing 10-20 m vertical accuracy
- Geological interpretation. Fugro performs geological image interpretation from satellite imagery, maintaining continent-wide license areas of this data, while also performing new, customer-specific acquisition and analysis anywhere in the world. 3D site visualizations of geological interpretation can be integrated with geophysical and geochemical datasets, structural models, and other geospatial data.
- Seismic planning. Combining satellite-based digital elevation models with very high resolution satellite imagery, Fugro provides data that greatly assists customers to efficiently plan survey activities in almost any part of the world. Land-use and terrain gradients can rapidly be assessed at a low cost, giving particular benefit for remote areas with poor or outdated base maps. Image resolutions of up to 50 cm enable detail of infrastructure to be determined.
- Environmental mapping. Using sequences of satellite imagery, Fugro monitors and maps a wide variety of environmental changes, ranging from subtle vegetation stress in small remote agricultural holdings to extensive changes on a regional level. Data acquired pre- and post-project activity can be used effectively to illustrate aspects of environmental impact control.
