Airborne Sensing and Mapping

Operating a large fleet of aircraft equipped with state-of-the-art airborne mapping sensors, Fugro’s airborne sensing and mapping capabilities serve a wide range of natural resources management, urban planning, economic development, defense, environmental, and engineering activities. Film- and digital-based mapping cameras are used for acquisition of high resolution airborne imagery, while lidar and imaging radar are used for efficient production of high accuracy 3D elevation data. Fugro also deploys other airborne remote sensing technologies for thermal and multispectral data collection and product development. Airborne sensing and mapping products include:

  • Orthophotography
  • Digital elevation/terrain models (DEM/DTM)
  • Topographic contours
  • Planimetric data
  • X- and P-band radar datasets (orthorectified imagery and DEM)
  • Image classification and thematic maps (e.g. land use/land cover)
  • 3D building models

Exclusive Services

FLI-MAP
Fugro’s FLI-MAP® system (Fast Laser Imaging and Mapping Airborne Platform) is a high-density lidar mapping system mounted on a helicopter. It is ideally suited for surveying corridors such as railroad tracks, electricity lines, highways, pipelines and embankments, as well as confined areas such as city centers, oil refineries and terminals, and other installations. The helicopter can easily access remote or dangerous locations without endangering survey crews. Using specialized in-house developed data processing software the acquired data can be used and re-used in innumerable applications. For more information, visit www.flimap.com or www.flimap.nl

GeoSAR
Operating day or night and penetrating clouds and foliage, Fugro’s GeoSAR radar mapping system rapidly produces high-resolution DEMs and radar imagery over regions previously considered inaccessible due to weather, size, and terrain. GeoSAR is the world's only dual-band, single-pass interferometric synthetic aperture radar (IFSAR) mapping system and its products support a variety of applications, including topographic mapping, flood modeling, environmental protection, economic development, forestry, agriculture, oil and gas exploration, and archeology.
