Fugro employees share a set of core values – reliability, integrity, transparency and respect for people and the environment. Incorporating these values as basic elements of Fugro’s business dealings will forge the trust of our stakeholders.
These shared values form the foundations of our Business Principles. The Business Principles apply to all Fugro companies. Fugro’s Board of Management expects employees to draw to the attention of the Board of Management or senior management every infringement, or suspected infringement of the Business principles. All Fugro employees are expected to avoid personal activities or financial interests that could conflict with their responsibilities to the company.

Striving to make a continuous contribution towards sustainable development is also a component of these Business Principles. This requires balancing short and long-term interests and integrating economic, environmental and social considerations into Fugro’s business decision-making. It should, however, be noted that, due to its global presence and highly decentralized structure, Fugro can be confronted with confl ict between (the lack of) local legislation and regulations and the high standards for which Fugro strives.
Fugro does not wish to play a political role regarding the desirability of developing, or not developing, projects. Fugro provides services when this is agreed with the client and when so doing will not conflict with international and local legislation and regulations or Fugro’s business principles.

Offering a healthy and safe working environment is a top-priority for Fugro. Which is why last year there were poster campaigns, internal audits and safety awareness activities aimed at all employees. Fugro wants to create safe and healthy working conditions for all workers, including subcontractors’ employees. We do not accept any form of forced or child labour. Another component of the Business Principles is that Fugro companies aim to be good neighbours through the way in which they contribute directly or indirectly towards the general well-being of the communities within which they work. Managers and their employees are encouraged, where and when appropriate, to involve themselves in the local community, support charitable and cultural events and support trade and academic bodies that aim to improve the effectiveness of the industries in which Fugro operates.

In furtherance of this principle Fugro supports many initiatives. Although this support is often in the form of a financial contribution it may also be offered in the active involvement of our own expertise and experience.
Fugro employees in the United States also believe that ‘giving something back to the community’ is very important. The annual participation of around 150 Fugro employees in the MS-150 bicycle ride from Houston to Austin (around 300 kilometres) is one example of this. The proceeds from the ride go to the national MS research fund. There are smaller events as well, such as the toy ride in the United States - toys are collected and given to the less fortunate at Christmas. Each year the Fugro operating company in Brazil makes a donation to a children’s home. These are just a few of the many examples around the world that could be mentioned.

Fugro N.V. focuses on general social objectives, such as music, art, culture and sport. This year Fugro signed a sponsorship agreement for the Odysseus Unbound project in Greece. Fugro, using its own innovative survey for the real Greek island of Ithaca described in Homer’s Odysseus. More information about this search can be found on http://www.odysseus-unbound.org/
