(Leidschendam - 20 May) Fugro and Deltares have signed a cooperation agreement for the development of knowledge in the field of delta technology and subsoil. The objective of the cooperation agreement is to promote research into issues relating to water, subsoil and deltas and high-value knowledge development, as well as practical applications of the aforementioned.
Deltares is an international knowledge institute in the field of water and subsoil and focuses on the development, dissemination and provision of this knowledge for delta technology (water safety, construction in soft ground, water systems). Deltares conducts research programmes for governments and companies and is actively involved in knowledge programmes in The Netherlands and abroad. Fugro is a globally-active and prominent commercial company providing services in the field of the collection and interpretation of data related to the earth's surface, the sea bed and the underlying strata, as well as consultancy in these fields. The activities are performed on land, on sea, and from the air and focus upon oil and gas, construction and infrastructure, industry and water. The activities of Fugro and Deltares in the field of delta technology are complementary and their combined knowledge and expertise will provide great impetus to innovative applications. Fugro's market-oriented innovative techniques and Deltares' field of knowledge also set the trend for research and development of new knowledge. The application of new knowledge by Deltares in Fugro projects is part of the cooperation agreement. Recently, Fugro and Deltares demonstrated their joint knowledge and expertise in the United States with a method for the automatic assessment of large-scale levee systems. Compared to conventional methods, it provides in a much faster and more efficient way, a view of the areas that need dike improvement most urgently. In the state of California alone there is an urgent need for assessment of the safety of around 28,000 km of river dikes. It is expected that more innovations in the field of delta technology and subsoil will be developed in the future within the cooperation agreement that has been signed. |
