Position

The Survey Manager is the Chief Surveyor in the company. The position is primarily responsible for overseeing all data processing, data management, charting and survey reporting operations within the company. The position is also responsible for evaluating and providing guidance on all geodesy, geodetic control, horizontal positioning and vertical positioning aspects of Fugro Pelagos’ projects. The Survey Manager will supervise the day-to-day activities of the Data Center, ensuring that all operations comply with customer requirements and specifications (including milestones and deadlines) as well as FPI’s Quality, Health, Safety and Environmental Mgmt System (QHSEMS). The Survey Manager will also work with Data Center and Field Staff in the development and quality control of survey protocol for both Multi-Beam Echo Sounder (MBES) and LiDAR hydrographic surveys.
 
Essential Functions:
  • Acquire and maintain a reasonable understanding of the company’s business activities, operations, vision and strategic plans for the future, especially as related to MBES and LiDAR hydrographic surveys.
  • Acquire and maintain a thorough understanding of the data types, data acquisition methods, data processing methods, software solutions and hardware solutions used on FPI projects, especially as related to MBES and LiDAR hydrographic surveys.
  • Manage permanent and temporary Data Center staff in the processing of data, production of deliverables (including charts) and generation of survey reports, ensuring that all operations comply with customer specifications, deadlines and FPI’s Quality Management System.
  • As required, assist with the processing of data, production of deliverables (including charts) and generation of survey reports in a manner that complies with customer specifications, deadlines and FPI’s Quality Management System.
  • Manage all project data from FPI’s survey and processing operations. This includes strict enforcement of established data and directory structures, as well as volume management, in terms of assessing when project data can be added (delivered from the field or restored) and/or can be removed (archived) from FPI’s servers. 
  • Evaluate ad provide guidance on all geodesy, geodetic control, horizontal positioning and vertical positioning aspects of Fugro Pelagos’ projects. This could occur during proposals, project planning or project execution.
  • Work with Data Center and Field Staff in the development and quality control of survey protocol for executing MBES and LiDAR hydrographic surveys, as well as the processing and reporting of data from such surveys.
  • Oversee and strictly enforce the compliance of FPI’s QHSEMS standards in the Data Center and within all Data Center activities.
  • Monitor and evaluate the capabilities of permanent and temporary Data Center staff versus the requirements of the job and make recommendations for training as required.
  • Provide technical support to project management and staff in support of proposals, projecting planning and execution.
  • Keep detailed records and logs regarding performance of the above responsibilities.
  • Ensure that quality, health and safety and environmental procedures are followed at all times.
  • Perform any additional tasks which may arise, as directed by supervision.
 
position requirements

 

  • BS/BA in Geomatics Engineering/Hydrography/Marine Surveying or related discipline with emphasis in geodesy, math, or cartography.
  • 5 or more years of marine survey experience as a Navigator, Data Processor or Hydrographer.
  • 2 or more years of experience as a Party Chief, Lead Data Processor or Lead Hydrographer.
In addition, the position also has the following requirements:
  • Current authorization to work in the United States or be employed by another Fugro operating company for at least one year
  • Driver's license with acceptable motor vehicle record is required.
  • Must be eligible to obtain international travel documents and passport.
  • ACSM Certified Hydrographer or CAT-A Hydrographer credentials are desired, but not required.
  • Proficiency with everyday software such as MS Word and Excel, E-mail and Internet Browsers.
  • Familiarity with spatial data processing and mapping software, such as geographic conversion software; AutoCAD and/or MicroStation; ArcGIS and/or Geomedia.
  • Familiarity with hydrographic data processing and analysis software, such as Caris HIPS/SIPS and Fledermaus.
  • Familiarity with Optech’s proprietary processing software for SHOALS data, Ground Control System (GCS).
  • Familiarity with GPS processing software, such as PosPAC and Trimble Geomatic Office.
  • Familiarity with photogrammetric and image processing software, such as Leica LPS, RSI ENVI and OrthoVista.
  • Familiarity with Windows operating systems and computer hardware components including HP plotters, hard disk drives and with mass data storage devices.
  • Candidate must complete a pre-employment drug screen
